when i reinstall and choose the right database and prefix i get te following error during pre-install validation:
Database could not be selected!
Please check the database permissions for the specified user and try again.
Checking table prefix `reyndesign_`: FAILED! - Table prefix does not exist in this database!
Setup couldn’t install into the selected database, as it does not contain existing tables with the prefix you specified to be upgraded. Please choose an existing table prefix, and run Setup again.
But the prefix is right. Does anyone have an idea of what it may be?

This means you are trying to run an upgrade, but the database does not contain your existing MODx tables.
But the prefix is correct. It is from an earlier install.
Yes I can see the tables, and when I put in the database information it says that it can connect, it just can’t find the prefix. Strange no?

Duplicate a MODX site using what steps? Did you duplicate the database and use the new database name when doing the advanced upgrade? The database would have to exist with the duplicated tables in it for this to work.
Thanks for your reply OpenGeek.
The steps I took were as follows:
1. Create tarball of public_html directory via SSH
2. Dump of database tables via phpMyAdmin
3. Extract tarball onto new site via SSH
4. Create database of same name on new site
5. Create login credentials and set all privileges for newly created database
6. Import tables to newly created database via phpMyAdmin
7. Run advanced upgrade inputting the new database information and login info
I can replicate this issue as much as need be but although the tables exist and contain the appropriate prefix the installer doesn’t like it. Perhaps this is a bug because I came up with a way to work around the issue.
The work around simply involves going in and manually editing "core/config/config.inc.php" with the new info and doing a standard upgrade (haven’t tried with an advanced upgrade). I’m not sure why this would make a difference as most of the information that I swapped out is the info that the advanced upgrade allows you to put in. The only thing that the advanced upgrade doesn’t give you an option to input is the home directory path.
Anyhow...technically this is resolved for me, but it seems as though some kind of bug does exist. If I can offer any information to help identifying the issue let me know!
Thanks!

For me, I was given this error because I had no imported the SQL data in the database yet.
Once I imported the SQL, I didn't receive this error.
