I want to update one site running with modx from 1.0.0 to the latest version. It is hosted at godaddy. Modx works fine but godaddy says "Server error" and only thing I can do is rollback installation.
My friend who updated to 1.0.0 didn’t care about the error since the modx worked just fine. Now the site has been completely re-done after updating to 1.0.0, so if I do rollback to previous version, the database will be gone and all the content from long time ago will be gone. Godaddy hosting don’t let me just update straight to 1.0.3.
Any ideas how to proceed. I guess only way to handle this is back up database, do the rollback installation to previous version, update to 1.0.3, restore database and hope it works. How to actually backup database and make sure all the content is still there after restoration? I really don’t want to blow this up..
There is also a backup generated with ModBak Site Backup v0.93
Thanks for help
Cheers,
Tommy
Ok.. I backed up the site with modbak and transferred it to another test site. Looks like it’s working. So what I need to do now is roll back, update the site to 1.0.3 and then import the current database to replace one that the roll back returned. My files should be OK, right? Or do I need to upload the whole back up to my site after rollback? Are there other files that are affected by this rollback?
I just basically need confirmation that I am doing the right thing before proceeding.
Cheers,
Tommi
You should be copying all the new MODx files when you do the update to 1.0.3. Your own files should be untouched.
Be sure to run an upgrade install after updating the MODx files. Make sure you *don’t* install the sample site during the install. That would trash your content.
