I have been maintaing a site created in MODx so have a very basic knowledge.
I need to create a news channel with blog that can easily be updated so I thought of MODx.
But I also need to add streaming video, is that possible?
Someone else has told me that buffering flash/client side buffering may be better - i will have to look into that but again can you do it in MODx?
Anyone got any views?

Hello,
If you can code it or make it work without MODx you can make it work with MODx. That being said I have one site using the JW Media player to play radio programs (could do video too without any problems) and power it by using an RSS feed (generated by Ditto). I just add new documents (well I just use the TVs for the document) and it’s added to the feed.
The streaming aspect is a little different in that you need a streaming server, but you can read about that here:
http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/tutorials/HTTP-Video-Streaming (better explained than I could likely do...)
Anyways I hope that helps,

We use the LongTail video player (I think it’s the same as the one AMD mentioned). The whole issue of streaming media is more of a server issue than a CMS issue. We use template variables to point to resources... we can point those references to files on a dedicated streaming server, for example. So in a word, yes, I think MODx would handle this fine, but it’s not the most difficult thing... for us it was setting up a database of media and a dedicated server.

I’m still used to the old name, Everett is correct in that the name is now Long Tail Video. If you don’t have the funds for a dedicated streaming server check out my above link as that php option looks interesting granted I still use progressive download, but one day when I have time I plan to test it out.
