Hello,
I’m developing a site for my friend in Sweden, and for the first time I have to do with some typical Swedish character Å å . The problem is that this character changes to " ? " ,it happens only in fields like pagetitle, longtitle, summary, but not in content area. In content area this and all other characters are changed to å and all other typical Swedish characters.
I’m running evo 1.0.3
Character encoding: UTF-8
Database Charset: latin1
Database Collation Charset: latin1_swedish_ci
During installation of modx I’ve made those settings:
$database_connection_charset = ’utf8’;
$database_connection_method = ’SET NAMES’;
I’m running:
PHP ver: 5.2.2
MySql: 5.0.75
I would be very grateful for Your help.
Regards,
Luke
Hi,
Encoding is not my field of expertise, but I did find this an intriguing question.
I tried using those symbols in my own test bed, and they seemed to work just fine. Unfortunately, I think I’m set up exactly like you, so maybe that’s no help. Just a plain vanilla English setup all the way through.
Or at least pretty close: MySQL is 5.0.85, PHP is 5.2.10.
I did not get å anywhere in my page; my title tags, page title, and page content all used this symbol successfully, even the URL alias, which was a real surprise: Å å
I’m thinking that because I just copied your symbol, maybe that’s different from trying to type in content using Swedish? But beyond that, I don’t know.
Sorry, not broken here. Maybe someone else will have an idea.
You might try converting everything to UTF-8 using this tool:
http://bobsguides.com/convert-db-utf8.html.
Be sure to back everything up first.
Thank’s for a quick reply!
Do You think that converting database to utf-8 will solve the problem?
Strange thing is that it happens only with Å å character. All other are ok.
Luke
I really don’t know, but it might be worth a try. It’s certainly simplifies things in the long run if everything is UTF-8 everywhere. You may end up editing those specific characters. I know I had to edit a few with a hex editor when I converted Bob’s Guides.
Sweet script!
