I’m building a site on 9.6.1 for my wedding and I need some information to be private; accessible to guests by password only. I tried to use the Web Permissions, but the login credentials don’t seem to work -- it loops back to the same browser login prompt, and I get a 401 when I cancel out.

This is what I did per the MODx Wiki (http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Document_Access_Permissions):
    - Set "Yes" to use access permissions in configuration
    - Created a new web user (for wedding guests)
    - Created a new Document Group
    - Created a new Web User Group
    - Assigned new Document Group to Web User Group
    - Assigned document to the Document Group

Is there a step I am missing?

Please advise. Thank you in advance.

In the first place, that is a very old version of MODx. You should be working with the latest version to be sure that any help you get will be relevant, besides the security fixes, bug fixes and other improvements.

Is your WebLogin snippet called uncached [!WebLogin...!]? If the page is cached, and the snippet call is also cached [[WebLogin...]], then the whole page will be served from the cache without the snippet ever being called again to process the POST from the login form.

The .htaccess file has nothing to do with MODx permissions; it is mostly for rewriting URLs.

Sottwell: thanks much for your assistance. I didn’t realize our build was that behind the curve.

I cleared the cache, both browser and from the backend GUI, but without success.

We found an alternate solution by bypassing MODx and setting up permissions on a virtual subfolder.

Definitely unloading the next site on the latest version. Thank you again for the quick response.
