Hi im totally new to Modx and have a requirement to create a general Forum where users can sign up and create topics and leave messages, and initially thought about using WordPress as I come from a Java/JSF background and have limited PHP experience.
However I would be more interested in using Modx if possible as future extensions and requirements are already predicted for this site, and really like the fact that Modx seems to be built for scalability and modularity and so far I am very impressed with what I’ve read about Modx and very keen to get started with it!
So it would be ideal if Modx had a Plugin or a good extension which could be installed from the Package Manager (Using Revolution) to create a Forum and was wondering if anybody could suggest something or be kind enough to share their experience as I was a bit confused about what if anything would be suitable from the Blog Extras etc.
Thanks in advance!
Many Regards

As far as I understand the SMF is the the one to use for forums in MODx as there’s an extention to have the SMF and MODx users integrated.

There’s no recommended forum solution really. We use SMF for the administration features and it’s what was best at the time. We don’t use it integrated, just styled to look like our site. Were we to do it today, it’d likely all be on top of OAuth/OpenID. My understanding is that the SMF integration can be cumbersome and tricky to get working properly.
