    Hi everybody,

When I enter username and password at manager login then just absolutely nothing happens so I get immediatelly in after refreshing login page.

I go mad as since Evo1.0.2 I have this issue almost with half of places I use MODx.

    I have Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS), PHP/5.2.13, MySQL 5.0.77 & Evolution 1.0.3

I have my own version with some snippets and plugins I want to be there with fresh install so I copy all the files, change config.inc.php and import database. Everything works and after some play around it happens again. Last time the issue happened after I installed EditArea and MaxiGallery.

I couldn’t find anybody else having same issue. I hate it as it’s a first time I feel MODx is letting me down. Never had "bugs" with it before and I have really many MODx sites running for years.

    Hope anybody have idea...

    Thanks,

    Kaspar

Never had that behavior. Have yo tried different browsers or different PCs? Is your 1.0.3 a fresh install or an upgrade? Do you have any custom plugins for the manager? I think we will need more info to figure this out.

Different browsers and different computers, Mac and PC and in many places. Fresh install always works. Also, when I upload my own MODx 1.0.3 where I have added some extra snippets it always work. Then I play around with it, add and modify and half the projects at some point start doing it.

          Step-by step:

          1) I installed 1.0.3 from /install folder.
          2) I added snippets: GetField and SiteMap, enabled SEF url’s, translated little bit (also TinyMCE) to Estonian and edited little /manager/frames/1.php to have nice own welcome message for customers.
          3) Login and everything rest working fine.
          4) I copied all the files back to my hard drive and export all the tables from MySQL to be able to get this as a starting point on next MODx website.
          5) I copied all files to new place, edited config.inc.php, renamed in sql file the server path and imported the SQL.
          6) Login and everything rest working fine.
          7) I added MaxiGallery and EditArea snippets and after that login not working.

I’ve had this behavior and it had to do with my .htaccess file. Are you forcing a www.yourdomain.com URL per chance? Whenever I had this behavior, I noticed I was just typing in mydomain.com/manager, then I’d validate, but the validation would trigger the redirect to the www.mydomain.com, and I’d have to re-validate.

I think the solution would be to edit the /manager/.htaccess file and force a redirect to the www.yourdomain.com/manager URL right up front... that way cookies/sessions wouldn’t be set against the "naked" version of the URL.

Just a thought... maybe you’re experiencing something completely different.

Yep, I had this line in .htaccess

              RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com$
              RewriteRule ^/?(.*)$ http://domain.com$1 [R=301,L]

but removing that doesn’t help... I had that line in my .htaccess from the beginning but at the beginning it was all fine

I also tried to add to manager/.htaccess file:

              RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^eurodesk.ee/manager/$
              RewriteRule ^/?(.*)$ http://www.eurodesk.ee/manager/$1 [R=301,L]

but that didn’t help either sad

Is it possible that the server’s permissions are inhibiting SESSION writing? Do you have any other bits of code that are using sessions?

I’m not really sure about these question huh Not sure where I can check that.

I just know that it’s all working fine on most of my MODx copies at same server and it all was working fine on the ones I’m having problems right now. I just set up MaxiGallery and EditArea in last place it happened and after that the issue came.

In different places I can’t remember after what exactly I added when it stopped working but in this last MODx setup I remember I tested that everything was working and then I added Maxigallery and EditArea and it stopped working. Removing MaxiGallery and EditArea didn’t help, too. Really-really weird, I have to say...

                    THANKS, EVERETT!

I was not sure about your question about handling sessions but I thought I give a try to see what plugins there are by default in my MODx 1.0.3 default install and wholaaa, when I disabled "Forgot Manager Login 1.1.1" plugin then everything just works fine!

Still weird why it then never stop working just after fresh install or when I even don’t run /install and upload my own MODx with some extra snippets and modifications but always after a while when I have added some more snippets or sometimes I think even when just adding some content.

Anyway, I’m happy to keep Forgot Manager Login disabled rather than explaining my customers why they have to refresh the page when they want to login but I will keep my eyes open and try to figure out after doing exactly what this thing happens.

Nicely done. Next step would be to debug this plugin... what is it doing that’s failing on your system?

Glad you got it working. Are there any errors in the manager System Event logs?
