How to migrate site from Test Server to Live Server

I’m finalising a site from html http://www.dementiacarematters.com/ to MODX http://www.gavinbaylis.com/modx/ which is on a test server, then we have to upgrade the exiting server to Linux / SQL etc what is the best way to migrate the site - I see you can make a DB backup but how do you import / migrate that?

I know I’ll have to upload the css files / images etc

And another question - see that there are loads of WordPress Templates at www.themeforest.com how difficult is it to migrate these over to MODx

Cool. This is pretty much what I am doing now. The question I have is how could I roll out core changes / changes to chunks / system settings / packages without touching resoruces and template variables.. I guess if I just exclude the pages table and the tv associations table from the export, this should work, I haven’t tried this yet, but do you see any problem with it?

Take a look at the Provisioner add-on.

FWIW, I would not move packages that way. They should probably be downloaded and installed on each site. And if you transfer settings, you’ll mess up your paths.

Another option is to use the Batcher plugin to package up what you want to move and install it as a Package at the second site.

Yeah actually moving packages like I have been doing has been a pain and doesn’t always work correctly... This is usually due to ACL issues that are somewhat apart from modX but still...

I guess in the end it really should take a bit of diligence and custom updating/testing...
