I am new to MODx and an amateur who is not very proficient in php. I want to add a wayfinder menu to a couple of templates. The tutorials and e-book left me a little overwhelmed.
I have successfully employed the minimum wayfinder snippet call: [[Wayfinder? &startId=`3` &level=`1`]]
The first wayfinder I want to customize seems pretty simple. I want to display one resource and only the children of that resource in a simple ul.
My resource tree would look like this:
All artists - selected resource
>>>>artist-1 - child
>>>>artist-2 - child
>>>>artist-3 - child
etc.
I can struggle through all of the CSS, but I can’t figure out the parameter to accomplish this.
THe second wayfinder I want to customize is pretty much the same but a little more complex. The resource included would have children (eg years) and grandchildren (eg months)
My resource tree would look like this:
Art Exhibit Archive - selected resource
>>>>2010 - child
>>>>>>>>>>> January exhibit - grandchild
>>>>>>>>>>> February exhibit - grandchild
>>>>>>>>>>> March exhibit - grandchild
>>>>2009 - child
>>>>>>>>>>> January exhibit - grandchild
>>>>>>>>>>> February exhibit - grandchild
>>>>>>>>>>> March exhibit - grandchild
>>>>2008 - child
>>>>>>>>>>> January exhibit - grandchild
>>>>>>>>>>> February exhibit - grandchild
>>>>>>>>>>> March exhibit - grandchild
etc.
After I solve that problem, I would like to apply some sort of drop-down or accordion to the Children (years) and grandchildren (months.)
Please help me with the right wayfinder parameter or a tutorial that addresses the problem of selecting resources and susequent children. I will try to tackle the drop-down style or accordion js after I accomplish the basics, with your help. Thanks!!
Hi,
I’m guessing that your call is not displaying the "parent" of the other documents?
Shooting from the hip, here’s one idea to play with. You could try a call like this and see what you get. The idea is that you’ll get one branch, and then show the parent above it, so to speak.
[[Wayfinder? &startId=`[*parent*]` &displayStart=`1` &level=`1`]]
Cheers, Dave
THanks Dave,
Turns out that the minimal call does most of what I wanted to do automatically, but I did not realize that. Thanks for helping me declare th parent as well!
