I am new to MODx and a beginner with php. Working in Dreamweaver and php myadmin. I have read numerous posts and followed instructions on how to correct my problem.

I have 2 versions of a MODx site. One is running on my local machine with MAMP. THe other is loaded to my web server. The local version allows me to upload fine. The version on my web server does not. It gives me the error: Error, "Failed to upload file, internal error..." I have followed the forum fixes to make files and directories in the assets folder writable. I have checked the FIle Manager path under Tools>Configuration>File Manager. I ran a php info to verify the server path.

Hmm. What can I try next? Need help. THanks!

    Local: Mac OSX.5 php5 MAMP 1.8.4

    Remote: OS Linux
    php 4.4.9

Just now updated remote to php5. still not working. grrrr...

      Hi all,

I’ve been using modx for quite a while now and I have to say something a little strange is happening because the last 2/3 sites i’ve setup is having exactly the same problem, the last 20+ sites i’ve used modx for has been absolutely fine but the newest 3 have shown this exact error!!

I can upload images in to any fold i create using FTP or I can upload loose but as soon as i try to upload into a folder that modx has created the dreaded "ERROR, "Failed to upload file, internal error..." message appears!!

      HELP, it’s driving me crazy!!!

      Thanks

What’s the file size of the document you are trying to upload. I think there’s normally a 2mb limit set. If your file is larger you could trying increasing this via a php.ini file.

I’ve just had a bright light shinning in my head and realized that the hosting setup had PHP ’safe_mode’ on, turn this off and the images upload like a dream!!!!

          Hope this helps!!!

Ben, THanks.. Initially, I am trying to get this to work using images already down-sized. As I said, THe process is working locally, But, I would like to know if that limit can be raised. I expect users who will not have the skill level or diligence to check their image size. THANKS!!

DB-- THanks. I checked... remote host: Safe mode is already off. What now?

Are you able to upload a file under 2mb? If so it probably is the size limit. If not, try creating a php.ini file at root level and using a plain text editor add:
              upload_max_filesize = 20M

Is the resource path working up from out side the public folder. For example my resouce path is.

                  /home/site/mysite.com/public_html/

                    Eureka!!
Thanks Ben et al, In my version, 1.0.3, it is called "File base path" under Tools>Configuration>Interface &Features tab.
And I was previously only looking at Tools>Configuration>File Manager: File Manager path

Thanks so much to all! smiley
