I have got domain and hosting with 123-reg. I have created a database, but learn that on their shared-hosting offering, the only way to create tables in your database is manually through my php admin.

Is any one familiar with this problem and is it common to all shared hosting? Or is it just a small technical issue that I can fix. The installation is all fine having changed the permissions and indicated, so the only block in the install process is creating mox_ tables. I can create tables manually through myphp admin.

Is there any way of making this install work? Perhaps if there are fixed number of tables modx wants to create I can import them from another install I have on a different server, and then modx can manipulate them after they’ve been created.

The hosting have said it will be difficult to get a refund so I’m hoping to make it work.

I really appreciate your help I am quite busy with this job.

Definitely not common; that’s a pretty big restriction for running an app like MODx. If you absolutely have to make it work, install on a local machine, let MODx create the tables there, then import the SQL dump into your database (and follow the other instructions for moving a site from one place to another).

So once the tables are created, modx just manipulates the fields, it doesn’t need to create or delete new tables?

        Thank you.

Generally it does not, but Extras you choose may need to create additional tables. YMMV on these with those restrictions.
