I tried installing modx. When I get to the database creation:
Enter the database host (server name or IP address), the username and password before testing the connection.

    Database host:

    Database login name:

    Database password:
→ Test database server connection and view collations.
Connection to host: passed - collations now available

    Database name: modx

    Table prefix: modx_

Connection method: SET CHARACTER SET or SET NAMES

    Collation: ut8_general_ci
→ Create or test selection of your database.
Checking database: failed - could not create database

I select the set character set and the above values. I get an error message that it cannot create the database. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your help.

Have you already created the MySQL database? Not all hosts will allow the installer to create the database so it’s generally better to create it yourself.

Once you create it, make sure you set the correct collation, I always use utf-general-ci. Then come back to this step and make sure you enter the full name of the database you created in this step

      Database name: modx

Some hosting companies add a prefix to the database name so make sure you put the full name in there. Hope this helps.

It was a problem with my webhost provider. Evidently on Fatcow, the modx is unique to their server, so I had to create a different database name. I had to contact their tech support. Now, it appears that I my install was successful. Thank you.
