I’ve tried installing revolution on 2 different servers. I am getting the following error on both servers:

Checking MySQL server version: Failed!

MODx will have issues on your MySQL version (5.0.51), because of the many bugs related to the PDO drivers on this version. Please upgrade MySQL to patch these problems. Even if you choose not to use MODx, it is recommended you upgrade to this version for the security and stability of your own website.

Evolution installs just fine. Any ideas as to why Revolution is so picky?

Evolution does not use PHP’s PDO library. Revolution, on the other hand, uses it extensively.

Regardless, MySQL 5.0.51 is a release of MySQL with a critical bug in it that actually affects the functionality of Evolution more than it does Revolution. We just decided not to support 5.0.51 explicitly with Revolution.

There is actually no bug in MySQL 5.0.51 that affects PDO drivers (that message is completely misleading and needs to/will be clarified).

I can’t install Revolution on an up-to-date Debian Stable box for the same reason as above...

How can I work around this problem?

Thanks in advance...

I am using HostMonster. I, too, was having trouble with the PDO stuff. Here’s what I found and how I found it:

Some pertinent info from phpinfo():

PHP Version 5.2.11

'./configure'
... some stuff ...
'--enable-pdo=shared'
'--with-pdo-mysql=shared'
'--with-pdo-sqlite=shared'
... some more stuff ...

However, no PDO block was to be found. To my php.ini I’d added, as directed from various places:

extension=pdo.so
extension=pdo_mysql.so
extension=pdo_sqlite.so
extension=sqlite.so

I still got the PDO errors. More searching indicated I might be looking for my extensions in the wrong place. My error_log indicated:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library './sqlite.so' - ./sqlite.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

What? Ok, let’s specify where those suckers are. A bit of digging and I found them in some goofy directory. So I had to modify the extension_dir directive to;

extension_dir = "/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/"

Hey, wait a second... why does that line have quotes and my other doesn’t???

Change the extensions to:

extension="pdo.so"
extension="pdo_mysql.so"
extension="pdo_sqlite.so"
extension="sqlite.so"

¡Voilà! - Shazam! - Huzzah! - GIGATT!

My PDO blocks are there and revo installed without issue.

In summary, I modified my php.ini to reflect the following:

extension_dir = "/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/"

extension="pdo.so"
extension="pdo_mysql.so"
extension="pdo_sqlite.so"
extension="sqlite.so"

Hope this might be helpful.
