Security when logging into manager

How do people protect their modx login details?

If you go to manager on an http:// site your user name and password will be transmitted in plain text.

I use a shared SSL certificate from my hosting provider

But this means that I have to use a redirect in .htaccess
RewriteRule ^manager\/?$ https://my.hosting.provider/manager/

It works fine, except it messes up all the links if you use any of the preview buttons.

Does no-one have this security worry?

No, I would do what you do; redirect. I always preview from the front-end in a different browser anyway.

Yes, that’s what I do, but it’s a bit messy for clients who don’t necessarily know to do this.
