Hi, I’ve had a look around the forums and checked various recommended calendars out, but it’s really hard based on the limited reviews/previews of each calendar to get a really good feeling for what they’re like.

I need just a simple calendar that has the most flexibility in how it displays, and preferably one that I can just install and run without having to know much about php etc.

If that’s not enough to go by, the calendar will be used simply to track industry events around the world. Paying subscribers to the site should be able to view and print event details, but only editors should be able to add events using as simple an interface as possible (ie so they don’t screw it up and leave me to fix it!). It would be great if the event data could also be used on the front page of the site in a small "Upcoming events" box, or something like that as a reminder to our subscribers that certain events are nearing.

    Thanks in advance.

If your users are using Google Apps you can use a calendar from that for the back end. There is a decent Google Calendar snippet that pulls data and feeds it to MODx. Then you can format it however you want. Check out this test site.

On the front page I decided to take the data and use jQuery along with the Cycle plugin to scroll the upcoming events one at a time. But you could also just show the whole list if you wanted. The snippet will also feed out a calendar table, which I eventually intend to use, but haven’t had time to style it to match the site. Until then I have embedded the Google calendar.

On the Google side of things, I created a calendar on the webmaster’s account, so it’s not tied to an individual who might leave, and then shared it with all the staff. They can add events to the public calendar right along side their personal.

Thanks Pixel Stuff. I got impatient and installed Easy Events, as I’ll be the sole enterer of events anyway. If I can’t get it to work, it’s good to know there’s a Google calendar snippet option out there.
