    Hi

I’ve been busy for a while now, and I made a backup by using the backup function in the MODx manager (database) and have a copy of the complete folder of my site (I work on xampp, so just a copy of C:\xampp\htdocs\sitename)

What is the easiest way to port my locally developped site to a server?

    Thx in advance
    Grtz, Kenny

Ps: I have found this article: http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/MODx096/Moving+Site but it’s a bit too technical for me right now (but that might be because of tiredness).
I’m looking for an easy solution like "copy the files and import the database" or something

Well, yeah, that’s basically all you do. Good idea to clear the site cache and also clear the Reports -> System Events log as well as the Reports -> Manager Actions log before the backup.

Once the site is moved, there are three things you’ll (probably) need to modify:

      1. the .htaccess file if you had a RewriteBase setting that’s different from your new host

      2. in manger/includes/config.inc.php you’ll need to edit the database access settings at the beginning of the file

      3. in the Manager, Tools -> Configuration -> Interface and Feature tab as well as the File Manager tab you’ll need to edit the File Base Path and File Manager Path fields to correctly reflect your new server paths.

        Ok, thank you

Well, I’m not a huge fan of toying around in configuration files, but if it has to be done, well, than it has to be done :p

        thx for the reply again.

If there is a way to do this without toying around in config files (like in the graphical user interface or something), plz let me know

        Grtz

Sorry, this has to be done. There can’t be a graphical interface if the system can’t run, and the system can’t run until it can access the database.

Well... there is a rather awkward way of doing this; you could install a new installation, then import your old backup database and upload your old assets folders (except for the assets/cache folder), then run the installer again in upgrade mode without any of the snippets or other items checked (so that it will only make any changes to the database structure that the upgrade needs that got overwritten by your import). Rename the ht.access to .htaccess, and it should be good to go.

            Ok, I’m considering both solutions.

            Thank you for the replies.

            Greetings, Kenny.
