    Hi everybody,
I am trying to install Modx and I get the following message:

Enter the database name to use or which you wish to create for this MODx install. If no database exists, the installer will attempt to create one. This may fail depending on the MySQL user permissions.

    Database name: Modx
    Table prefix: Modx_

    Connection method:
    SET CHARACTER SET SET NAMES

    Collation:
→ Create or test selection of your database.
Checking database: failed - could not create database

Any help is really appreciate as I am a novice on all...

    Thanks and Regards
    John

Hello and welcome to MODx. It’s always a good idea to create the database yourself since not all hosts will allow the installer to create a database. It would be useful to know your hosting environment to give a clearer answer, but here are some generic instructions.

In your hosting control panel, under mySQL databases, create a database and set it’s character collation to utf-8. Then enter this database name in that install screen. Bear in mind that some hosts will add a prefix to the db name so make sure you use the full name, prefix included. You can just leave the table prefix as is. Select SET CHARACTERS and make sure it’s also utf-8 to match the database you created. You should be able to proceed with the install from here on.

      Hope this helps.

It look great and even if I have still a lot to learn.
I am sure I’ll come back with more questions.

        Thanks again.
