    Hi,

I have taken over a modx site and it looks like there is a character encoding problem as I have lot of " –".

I thought I could just change the modx_site_content content field from latin to utf8, but I get this error:

#1283 - Column ’content’ cannot be part of FULLTEXT index

how do I get around this?

    thanks,
    G

You can’t just change the table collation; the problem is likely you are presenting latin1 encoded content into a UTF-8 configured web site. You’ll have to change the site to use a compatible output encoding (e.g. ISO-8859-1) or you’ll need to export all your data using utf8, recreate all the tables with a utf8 character set, and then reimport the content. There is a lot to it, and the process is heavily dependent on your mysql client’s connection collation setting.
