    Called MT and after a really long wait on hold, the wait was apparently worth it. A young man helped me with everything from email issues, to ssh issues. We overwrote the ftp upload of modx with a new install through ssh, the db test is now working!

    What I’m gonna have to do from now on, is upload the .tar file of modx install, and extract through ssh to avoid complications.

    Thanks for all your comments and help.

      MT does have pretty good customer service, i’ve never called them, but i’ve submitted a few tickets through their support system and gotten responses within a couple hours.

      when i do an install of modx (and keep in mind i’m lazy) i usually just ftp up the 1,500 or so files via filezilla, and then change the permissions of the needed files/directories with from there. it is much easier to upload the .tar and extract through ssh though, and you can be much more certain that your permission changes take effect (sometimes ftp programs seem to make the change, but actually don’t... looking at your dreamweaver).

      glad you got it working!

      one more note on mt’s (gs) servers, i wanted to do a test of modx revolution, however the version of mysql on (gs) is NOT compatible. i was able to get it installed by altering the modx install file to allow it to install on whatever version of modx is on (gs) (can’t recall the version # right now). unless mt plans on updating the (gs) mysql version, which i wouldn’t count on, you’ll have to move elsewhere or go up to a virtual dedicated, where you can use a newer release of mysql, if you want to use modx revolution.

        According to the MT regular website:

        What versions of LAMP software come with my (gs)? The (gs) Grid-Service currently features the following versions of software:

        * PHP 4.4.8-1
        * PHP 5.2.6-1
        * Perl v5.8.4
        * Python v2.4.4
        * Apache 2.0.54
        * MySQL 5.1.26
        * PostgreSQL 7.4.7

        Is this just for new accounts, because I certainly haven’t got access to MySQL 5.1.26, or is this misleading marketing that is referring to the fact that you will have 5.1.26 if you ALSO pay for a GridContainer?

        I know it’s shared hosting, but you’d definitely get better, cheaper elsewhere...

          This was only true of beta5 and previous releases; the problem on the grid is that some of the web server nodes were running an ancient mysql client library and our detection script in the beta releases of Revo did not account for such an environment properly. This is no longer an issue with current code in SVN, nor will it be in the release candidates.

            Are you sure it’s no longer an issue? I can’t get Revo-RC2 to install on MediaTemple’s (gs) instance. It still chokes on the fact that the client version is 4.1.11.

              I thought it was resolved, at least for some of the versions that were rejected. If it is not for you, please enter a bug report so it is not overlooked.

                Yeah, still getting the error:

                Checking MySQL client version: Failed! - You are running on MySQL 4.1.11, and MODx Revolution requires MySQL 4.1.20 or later. Please upgrade MySQL to at least 4.1.20.
