I have half-decent abilities in Linux server admin, but I’m stuck on the modx installation:

    Everything is okay except:
Checking if /assets/images, /assets/files, /assets/flash and /assets/media directories are writable: FAILED!

I’ve tried setting all directories to 777 and files contained to 666. They have dual group permissions. It is writing an installProc.int.php into the cache folder.

The only thing left to wonder is, I did have to set the config.inc.php to 0666 before it validated, which doesn’t make sense because a numeric chmod is 666. What’s with the 0? But it worked for that part of the validation.

So what’s going on with my silly assets folders? Any ole hacker should be able to write to them right now.

Ubuntu Linux (Debian based), ModX 1.02

Is the host using suPHP or suExec?

That would require 755 for folders and 644 for files.

And don’t forget to clear your browser cache/cookies after any changes.

Its a VPS, so it has whatever I put on it.

        I have PHP5 on it.

I’ll try playing with the perms some more.

I got it to work. Two of the folders weren’t set to 777. Perhaps it should be noted in the install docs, because it calls for permissions on three folders, whereas the validation was adding /files /flash /media.
