Apologies for the vague subject, I couldn’t think of anything more appropriate considering the answers I’m seeking.

    Small intro
I’m currently working on building a nice website to publish and work out use-cases mostly for personal reference. I bet allot here will understand, stumbling upon a problem and knowing you’ve fixed it before but can’t remember ^_~

That will kinda be the goal to my website. It sounds like a typical wiki but I don’t really like the current wiki software + I have a different goal for my website.

    Content
The content for my website will be the following:

    • News / Blog: To me they are the same but where one is fact and the other is opinion wink
    • Articles / Pages: Not sure what name they should have but that won’t really matter. These will be pages with use-cases and the entire solution in it, probably a one page information page making it useful for printing. (I like the ability to properly print a page) Some pages will be huge, others will be short, will depend on the subject.

    Templating
I’ve found a nice and clean template from www.free-css.com:

Now my first question would be, are there any tips / tricks regarding to templating for ModX? I’ve seen the documentation and it kinda reminds me of a product I’ve worked with before so it should be pretty straight forward. But considering it being my first time converting a template for ModX I’m wondering if there are things I should consider / not forget (content types, names of classes, etc.)?

    Addons
There’s a host of addons I’ve seen for ModX and I’ve seen a few that I’d like but I’m curious other opinions to which addons are good for the following features:

    • News / Blog posts: This is doable by default but maybe there are some enhancing addons for these two features.
    • Replies to news & articles: Also doable by default but improvements via addons are always welcome.
    • Table of Contents: For the articles, a nice ToC would be great any suggestions here would be great. I’ve only seen this one: http://modxcms.com/extras/package/33 . But maybe there are others out there. (this is rather important for me because of the content of my site)

I guess the only real thing for addons that I’m looking for is a nice Table of Content builder / creator or what not. The other points aren’t as important to me.

    Summary
Well, I guess I’ve made a huge post for only 2 critical questions. So to summorize for those skipping to the bottom tongue

    • Are there tips and tricks for templating for ModX, things I should consider, double-check, naming of CSS classes, etc.?
    • Is there a good Table of Content builder / creator for ModX?

If you’ve read this far, thanks for reading smiley And hopefully some of you can help me out with these questions.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mejiro

You might find this useful (especially the link to the video on creating a template): http://bobsguides.com/porting-your-site-to-modx.html

The most likely tool for your TOC is the Wayfinder snippet.

        Thanks for the reply.

I’ll definitely have a look at the templating link you’ve given, haven’t seen that one before smiley

The Wayfinder snippet looks promising, but not sure if I can build a ToC for a document with it. (similar ToC as you can find on Wiki pages) But I’ll look into it and play with it a little.

        Greetz,

For the ToC I think this will be a better option:

It’s should work if you just need a TOC for a single page’s content. I thought you wanted a TOC for multiple pages or the site itself.
