It seems like on paper it should work, but will it? I have tried every permission combination I can think of, including giving the role all premissions and assigning the user to that roll, however as soon as you check the NO box on Manager Interface access, the user is not allowed to edit from the front end and seems to get stuck with a blank screen displaying something like possible crf viloation. If it can be done, MOD-x is perfect for my projects, but once one of my clients enters the manager they will spontaneously combust. Is this as it should be or is it something wrong with my numerous installations?
Be sure you’re using web resource groups and web user groups for setting permissions in the front end and make sure the users are logging in the front end rather than the Manager.
This might help if you haven’t seen it:

What you’re trying to do is definitely possible (and done all the time).
What are you using for front end editing? (e.g. NewsPublisher, FDM, etc.).
I have newspublisher enabled to add blog posts, but I would like my clients to be able to edit the content on the page including template variables without accessing the manager. I have messed with pkblog, but I have not been able to get it to work. It would be great if they could use the front end quick editor without being able to access manager. If that were possible, all would be great!
There is QuickManager:

There’s also an old snippet called ManagerLogin that logs users on to the front and back ends simultaneously so they can use QuickEdit:
http://modxcms.com/extras/package/?package=254. Again, I don’t know if it will work in 1.0.2.
Personally, I strip down the Manager and tell the users it’s just like MS word, only for web pages.
Both QuickManager and ManagerManager plugin comes bundled with MODx 1.0.2
Then there is this:

I use NewsManager/Editor (similar to NP). It doesn’t support TV’s.
I have yet to try this though:

But what I do, is using
MODx Document Objects; longtitle, description, introtext for my data. Sometimes changing the fields in phpMyAdmin to text. Then rename the fields in Manager with ManagerManager...
But so many existing add-ons are based on TV’s (which is great):
