    Hi

    I tried to install MODx Revolution on my local machine (Windows XP Pro SP2 with XAMPP) I know I would have problems because of the MySQL version used by XAMPP but tried it anyway to see what it returns ...
    =================================================
    Checking MySQL server version: OK! Running: 5.1.33-community
    Checking MySQL client version: Failed!
    MODx will have issues on your MySQL version (5.0.51a), because of the many bugs related to the PDO drivers on this version. Please upgrade MySQL to patch these problems. Even if you choose not to use MODx, it is recommended you upgrade to this version for the security and stability of your own website.
    =================================================
    The problem is "APACHEFRIENDS" wouldn’t care less about it and also DO NOT ADVISE what xampp version to use and where to get this version that would be suitable!

    can anyone point me to a xampp download version that would carry a newer MySQL version, OR - how would I need to go about to upgrade my xampp with the correct mysql version myself?

    Thank you

          I don’t know how u would resolve this with XAMPP, but you could also try Wampserver. I have been able to successfully install Revolution on Wampserver, but you need to make sure you’re running it with PHP 5.3 which is the default for the current version. I had troubles only when I rolled back to running PHP 5.2.x

            Do you find Wampserver more user friendly than XAMPP.

            Can you have both on one machine and select which to run.

              I’ve tried both and picked Wampserver. Just a personal preference on my part. But I also really like that I can have several versions of PHP, MySQL or even Apache installed and switch back and forth between them. I really only use this option with PHP versions and it comes in handy a lot of times.

              I don’t know about running them both on the same machine, never tried it. Should be possible but you’d probably need to tweak port settings or something.

                I installed Wampserver I see what you mean about all options

                I Stopped my XAMPP and started Wampserver uses difrent install directories.

                Wampserver worked fine.

                Will now have to transfer site and database.

                I intend trying PHP 5.3 with production ini file

                will keep you updated as to success on default install.
