Hello everybody,
I’m looking for a CMS that can power a site with hundred thousand articles.
I started with sNewsCMS but it lacks many features. Then I come to TextPattern, this CMS is really good for designer but it don’t have powered built-in search engine. Yesterday, I come to MODx. I read all the introduction articles. I see that MODx is a very great CMF.
I wonder if MODx is suitable for me to build a website with hundred thousand articles! That is just my personal website with lyrics, jokes, short stories. Does MODx have a built-in search engine to search articles in any specific section? How could I import my articles in CSV format? (right now i have over 30K articles exported to CVS format)!
I’m looking for your help. Thank very much in advanced!
Best regards,

I imagine most of this content is presented in exactly the same way. I would recommend that you create custom components and database tables to store and access your thousands of articles and do not try to make each article a Resource in MODx. IMO, jokes should have a single custom Resource in MODx that serves as a view into the jokes, and similarly with lyrics and short stories. You could organize all your articles into a single table with an article type or put each kind in a different table.
This approach will have many advantages over trying to simply add a hundred thousand pages to MODx, not the least of which is MODx can only handle a few thousand Resources (in Revo per Context) before the cache files become too large and start to slow down every request to your site. Even if it could handle it, these custom views into your great quantity of content will be much more efficient than treating each article as an individual Resource. And you can easily implement custom FURLs for each article shown in your custom view snippets using the OnPageNotFound event and a simple plugin.
