    hi,,,

i just thought... (because i was thinking of buying it)

whats the craic with this book?
    http://www.packtpub.com/modx-web-development/book

i know its due out soon, but wont MODx 2.0 soon be released taking over from the current stable version?

So will this book it be relevant to MODx 2.0 release? i.e. will it port over and be at least 85% relevant?

    Cheers

modx 2.0 (revolution) will not take over modx 1.0! They will be deployed aside together wink So modx 1.0 (current modx 0.9.x, evolution) will be released and maintained and aside that modx 2.0 will be released as a total new cms.

I don’t know if the book has a good value of content, but it is based on the current modx release. So the book will be useless for the new and upcomming modx revolution.

        Lol... forgive my ignorance …

but why have two types of MODx?...

will MODx 1 be slowly phased out and eventually MODx 2 be the main system..

        or

will both be tailored to do different things? i.e. MODx 1 = SME sized CMS and MODx 2 = an Enterprise CMS?

(I would research this myself, but the MODx site is very slow for me today (I think its a problem at my end))

MODx Evolution (legacy) will be kept around by the community. Since this is an open source project, people can feel free to use it. And since usage of 0.9.6 (Evolution) is so widespread, we are keeping it available and not shutting it down. I’m sure we’ll see work and contributions on Evolution for some time to come.

MODx Revolution is the new branch, and adds quite a few new features, a revised tag syntax, multi-site capabilities, transport packaging, element properties, nested tagging, no limits on document counts, and much more. So, we’ve branched it out. It is the future of MODx, correct; but there’s no reason to abandon old users who aren’t ready to upgrade. (The project isn’t even ready; it’s still in alpha, soon to be beta.)

So, Revolution is a different beast. smiley

I think the book is to be release any time now in March. From what i know it is a good book with plenty of beginner/intermediate level info and many examples.
