    I’m trying to follow the MODx upgrading instructions but am little uncertain about the part where I need to extract the new MODx tarball and overwrite the old files (yes, I have backed-up everything wink). I’m trying to upgrade from MODx 1.0.1 to 1.0.2, if this is relevant.

    When I extract the tarball, it extracts the files to (assuming I am in the web DocumentRoot) modx-1.0.2/
    My existing MODx installation is installed directly in the DocumentRoot (ie, not within a subfolder).

    The next step is for me to move the new MODx files correctly into place, over the old files.

    Will "mv modx-1.0.2/* ." do the Right Thing (I’m on a Linux server) in terms of overwriting files in the right place, retaining folder permissions (and retaining my config.inc.php file, which, yes I have backed-up), etc, or is there anything special I need to be aware of?

    Thanks!

        try installing mc (midnight commander) that helps a lot IMHO.

        $ cd /modx-1.0.2
        $ mv * ../
