I have changed the original post, after reading more about tcpdf in an old post, I found that this is not at all what I needed.
again, this is the problem I have, the client wants to use the backend text editor and have it posted as you would ditto but with a link to a pdf instead, well I almost solved this, I created a new template where any text placed there is bulleted list, the bullets being pdf, then I decided to see if in the file manager there was a way to go to desktop find the pdf and simply upload it and the link to the local drive would appear in the text area....I am disappointed, no such luck it is image, flash and video
am I missing something? would there be a way to handle this? I was soooooo close, manually entering the link isn’t an option. this client is the archetypical client from hell and the little he does the less frantic emails I get..."my text all is ipsum something gibberish!! what the heck are you doing to me!!!"

actually he is quite happy just not able to use much else outside of word.
EDIT:
http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/MODx096/The+Managerthe file uploads fine, but how to link it, inserting other media types are of no problem, do I add pdf to one of the media file types in the manager? I tried this with images but it didn’t work. again, manually linking would give this client a fullblown breakdown I am sure
EDIT: I am going to try fckeditor
