I have been on the hunt for a good cms and after going through the modx tutorial at nettuts, I was sold! It has a lot of great features. I also saw mention of modx revolution coming soon and I wondered if I should wait for it before I invest too much time learning/developing with the current modx. Is modx revolution simply adding new features or is it completely different?

Thanks for any insight you can give me.

      Welcome to modx!

I suppose it all depends on how fast you want to move into using the cms. Revo is still in alpha, hopefully in a couple of months it will be beta.

i would suggest to dive in rigt away into the current modx - the 0.96 branch because it is not going away soon. It will change to modx evolution and will be maintained for a long time to come. There will be an upgrade tool from modx evo to modx revo. You therefore have nothing to loose and so much to gain. The 0.9.6 branch is certainly very impressive but revo will certainly blow your socks away.

Again welcome to the modx community - probably the friendliest and most helpful of all the cms communities out there.

      cheers/k

        Welcome to the community.

And, as kongondo wrote above, he is absolutely correct. smiley, start with 096 (soon to be MODx Evolution) branch and its here to stay.

MODx Revolution is a totally different animal and is in alpha stages, and is not meant for beginners if they don’t want to invest a bit of time and can digest rapid updates/changes in the code.

In short, current stable release is the way to go! smiley

I agree with both Zi and Kongondo, but I wanted to make sure this comment isn’t misunderstood.

MODx Revolution, will be perfect for beginners once it is released. It will be easier to use and to learn than 0.9.6, IMO. It’s not recommended for beginners now because of its Alpha status.

Thanks everyone for your quick feedback! I will dive right in and focus on the 0.9.6. BobRay, I found the modx faq on your site very helpful.

Around what time can we expect the 2.0 ’stable’ release?

Or is this a case of "when it’s done"? ;-)

                Thanks.

Oh perfect, I was about to add a ’2.0 or 0.96 ?’ topic.

Thanks for replying before I even posted. grin
