    Hi
I’m a noob and would like to try modx locally.
    I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate.
    I’ve installed xampp.
    I’ve downloaded modx 1.0.2
I’ve copied the modx folder to c:\xammp\htdocs
I would now like to install and run it.
I’ve scoured the net and can find no clear instructions on what to do next.
Something about ’point your browser to http://yoursite.com/install and follow the instructions’.
I don’t know where that is. I don’t know what to run to install modx.
    Suggestions welcome

I read somewhere that you have to create a database first but the instructions didn’t work at all.

Well, thanks but that refers to problems running xampp.
As far as I know xampp is working. I can start the xampp control panel and from there can start mysql and apache services - no errors.
My problem is that I can’t bring up the modx install screen cso I don’t know how.
Apparently I need to point the browser at my website.
Problem is, as far as I can tell, is that I’ve yet to create one. That is the reason I’m attempting to use modx

Well, I’ve now discovered that if I run http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ I can create a database and user. OK, so I’ve done that. Now what?

Assuming your modx files are at c:\xammp\htdocs\modx-1.0.2\ then you should be able to browse to http://localhost/modx-1.0.2/ which would start the install process.
If not what happens when you browse to http://localhost/ ?

Maybe there’s some documentation somewhere that I’ve yet to find that instructs someone that isn’t a programmer/coder how to run this thing.
On the modx website it states that this ’isn’t really rocket science’ and that: ’End-users can’t believe how simple MODx makes managing sites’. Well, if the installation is anything to go by then I’m inclined to disbelieve it.
Would you suggest that I give it up?

Ah Hah! Thanks Bunk58. That gives me an install screen. I’ll give it a go and keep you posted on my progress.
