    Hi guys,

    Happy New Year smiley
I have noticed the following behavior on 2 MODx installs on the same server. One was a fresh install of MODx, the other an upgrade.

    Server: Apache, PHP 5
    MODx version: Evo 1.0.2

First problem is when I try to link to a file. The resource browser shows no files at all in the root of /assets/files/
I can however see the folders on the left tree view, but the right view pane is blank?
If I drill down on a sub-folder I can then see the contents of the sub-folder in the right pane, and everything works fine.

Anyone come across anything like this before? If I try to upload a file to assets/files/ I get the following error: "A file with the same name is already available. The uploaded file has been renamed to xyz.doc"

When I look in ftp I can see the file gets uploaded, but I cannot see it in the right pane, arrrggghh!!!
    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

    Justin

I notice with images everything is fine. I can view, delete, create new folders, delete folders and upload new files with no problems at all, with both installations. Its just the /assets/files/ that seems to kick off?

        Hi
I had a similar sounding problem recently which was fixed by replacing/overwriting all resource browser files - check the thread here:
        http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,43461.0.html

This is possibly a bit different to what you’re experiencing so don’t go gung-ho file overwriting, but I hope it helps.

Thanks man, your post uncovered the problem. There was accented characters in one of the files in /assets/files/
When I renamed this file the whole thing started working again.

This could be a problem as this client is likely to have many file with accented characters. Is there a fix that can be applied to the resource browser can read them?

            Hi, glad it helped!

I really don’t know if modx can get around that problem ... well actually i’m sure there’s a php uber-guru who could sort a workaround fix ... However, it sounds like your client should be weaned off a bad file naming habit as that is the root of the problem, and it’s probably not only modx which suffers.

As a rule, i instruct clients to use ONLY alpha-numeric characters file naming, with a very strong preference for no spaces - ideally using camel case or hyphenation instead of spacing. If you let them know that their actions could incur fees for repair they usually sort it out sharpish!

            Cheers

That would normally be very good advice, but the client’s company name has a fáda in it!
What are all the french, german, spanish dev’s doing?

Should this not be getting run on fileupload to prevent gremlins?
              $modx->stripAlias($alias);

                ohboy! undecided
I’ll be very interested in seeing how this one develops - good luck!
Otherwise I guess it’s a case of asking your client to switch to En charset on their keyboard when naming files - I’m assuming you’re using an English language version of modx?

Yeah it’s an English version alright, but the file names are in Irish (Gaelic). They need to be removed if these files are going onto a web server, no 2 ways about it smiley

I have a patch for MCPUK (file browser) for this. I’ll post it later this week when I’m back at work.
