    Hello,

    I’ve setup my template to use the introtext (keywords), description and long title tags as the Meta tags which has been fine up until now. The description input field seems to have a character limit set. Is there anyway to increase the limit for the input or will this have detrimental effects on the field in the database?

    We setup a lot of CMSs for our clients and it’d be a greater deal of work to have to create TVs each time when the inputs are already built-in -- hopefully, in the future, this will be fixed to going back to a similar setup for the now deprecated Manage Meta tab.

    Thanks!

      I am wondering this too. No answer?

      I know that meta tags have a de facto maxlength, but I often get meta data longer than this, from clients or even SEO "experts" who should know better, yet no great way to crop it without some detriment.

      Without killing my few templates system, do I just add a custom description TV?

        So yeah, I did have to just add a custom description TV.

        I could not use the name "description" so used "description-long."

        My template tags now look like this:
        <meta name="description" content="[*description*][*description-long*]" />

        This is a lot like what I had to do in Drupal using the Meta Tags Quick module in addition to the easier Meta Tags module -- I end up with two description fields sadly but just use one or the other per content, not both. [ed. note: ssanders last edited this post 14 years, 1 month ago.]

          There is also a nice extra :http://modx.com/extras/package/metax

          This even adds them to your HEAD for you.

            I'm not sure I understand what you want to do but you can use output modifier to limit to specify the amount of characters for any MODX system field or TV.

            [*description:limit=`50`]]

            I hope that is what you meant.

              I suspect the poster wants the opposite; the "description" field is limited in the database, so if you want a longer description in your page head you have to use something besides the resource's description field.
