    Hi there!

I got a non-modx related question/problem about domain aliasses and Google.

    I have 2 domains:
    - www.oldurl.com : The website
    - www.newurl.com : domain alias.

The old url is no longer needed as the name is wrong, but I have my website hosted under that domain so I chose to make an alias, the new url I want to use. When I open www.newurl.com I see the website and www.newurl.com stays in the adressbar, so far all good, but when I look at Google it still indexes www.oldurl.com instead of www.newurl.com.

How do I force Google to display www.newurl.com?

    Thnx in advance.

You can use Google Webmaster Tools to tell Google about the domain change.

        Thnx for you fast reply!

Okay I will have a second look there, as I’ve done certain things (robots, sitemaps, etc.) before in that panel.

Will this be enough for Google to understand I don’t want to use oldurl.com anymore?
In the template, modx, robots, sitemap, etc. I changed every link to newurl.com already.

          It should do the job.
I’ve only done it once before and it took a while for the old pages to stop being indexed.

Okay just requested a domain redirect:

            www.oldurl.com > www.newurl.com
            oldurl.com > www.newurl.com

If this works I’m going nuts laugh

I used bunk58’s Google Webmaster Tools solution, so I didn’t need to redirect smiley . (Redirect isn’t a(n) (good) option as I’m targeting a domain to it’s alias domain)
