how to use an IDE (Aptana Studio, NetBeans, eclipse...)

Hi everybody,

I like MODx but the own editor (Editing the Template, Chunks, Snippet ...) is not so good. I hope it will be better.

No syntax highlighting, code completion etc. And for me the most annoying thing is that after I save it, it jumps to the beginning.

Therefore I wanna use the Aptana Studio IDE. In Aptana Studio I have a FTP-Connection.

My aim: I wanna change the MODxHost-Template & other files with the IDE.

Problem 1:
I can’t find the MODxHost-Template. Where is it? I wanna change the html code with the IDE.

Problem 2:
Sometimes I get this error if I click a file: <h2>Unauthorized access</h2> You’re not allowed to access file folder

Why a long way round?
Can someone explain this, why it isn’t possible to get direct access?

Because templates, chunks, snippets, etc are stored in the database. There are ways to get around this:

There’s also this approach http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,40916.msg257149.html#msg257149, which we can now tie in with versioning but its not for everyone, its mainly aimed at dev shops for instance and only on linux platforms(although you can integrate this into a dev system without necessarily being on a linux platform), also its still in development although I’m now hoping to get a release out for evo early in the new year.
