    Hi everyone,

This is going to be such a stupid question I know, I’m missing something really obvious.

Just discovered ModX in the last week, playing about with it and realising how fantastic and flexible it is, so am developing my site with it. However, playing with Wayfinder, how on earth do I add a link to an external site (ie. my forum) to the navigation? At the moment, I’m adding an item but it just treats it as another internal page, linking to a blank content area with the chunks alongside. Obviously, I’m missing something, so can somebody put this fool right? grin

    Many thanks.

      Hi pompey

You would use new weblink tab

      Fill in the appropriate info

Make sure you use the correct template..

menu index tells the wayfinder where in the order of the menu you want it placed..

      LMK if it worked

That’s what "weblinks" are for. Basically they are just documents that have a URL (or document ID if it’s for an internal document) instead of the content. They are stored in the database as type "reference" instead of "document", so snippets can treat them differently if they are coded to be aware of that field. Wayfinder will use its content to make the link in the menu.

If a weblink does get passed to the parser, MODx immediately generates a redirect to the weblink’s content if it’s a whole URL, and if it’s just a number (the ID of a local document) generates the URL and then does the redirect.

Knew it would be easy, I’d missed the weblinks option. It works!!! Thanks a lot for your help both of you.
