I have made a site with modx and all pages are published and live...
We have gron in "staff"
And i now have editors and publishers...
Editors = edit the content but they can not publish the newly edited content
publishers are underwriters that need to look at the edits to check if it meets policy and has correct wording and spelling..
Problem is i can not for the life of me allow the editor to edit the pages without it being published right away (not giving the underwriters time to proof the edits before going live)...
If i unclick Published? then the current LIVE page (prior to editing) gets taken down...
Is there a way to keep the old page LIVE and able for all to see
have the editors edit the old live page but not publish right after..
and have the publishers alerted there is a page that was edited and needs to be proof read then published to overwrite the old live page...
Thank you
I’ve tried searching but nothing came up

One way to implement such a system is to use a TV with @DOCUMENT binding for your main (published) document, which would have the TV for its content, then have your editors edit a different document, and when it’s approved change the document ID in the main document’s TV. A bit clumsy, but it would work.
Or some clever use of plugins and a module would allow an "editor" to edit the document, but instead of saving to the regular site_content table it would save to a custom table and email or otherwise notify somebody that it needs checking, and only when the "publisher" user uses the module to view and approve the edited content would the module then save it to the site_content table (and flush the cache).

I am have decent php programming knowledge
I was gonna try and create a table similar to content and maybe label it editcontent..
have a sript pull the CONTENT from the dbase..
I’ll use lose terms since i haven’t coded it yet
If editor get content (sql query for the dbase to retrive content)
the editor edit it’s and click save for approval
Post to editcontent table in the dbase
If publisher
get editcontent if editcontent > 1 post alert or maybe trigger a message to the publishers
then they retirve the editcontent data..
then pprove of it
If publisher post approve
and have the script NOW write to content table...
Is this possible ?
Where would i put my PHP code to enact this ?
I mean does this mean i have to edit source code for modX ?
Sorry new to modx but i catch on very fast

No, this would be done as a plugin. Actually, that’s what plugins are for; MODx provides various "events" where you can "plug in" your own code to override what MODx normally does at that point. The event you would be interested in would be the onBeforeDocFormSave event. Your plugin would first check the SESSION to find out who is doing this. You could use roles or manager user group membership or individual user names (or IDs).
