I’m looking into MODx as a future platform for my projects.

I like the template variables, and their ability to create various custom content types.

But I often find a lot of the other fields in the write panel redundant for my needs. Especially the one at the bottom with the eval code. I don’t even know what it is... Can I get rid of such fields beeing shown? Especially for my clients.

Essentially I’d like to "dumb down" the content input UI so my client only sees the fields they have to use. For a specific content type.

    Related question:
Can I somehow make it so that child content automatically inherits the template chosen for the parent? So that the client does not have to select a template for a piece of content?

Thanks in advance, and have a nice day;-)

ManagerManager plugin is the solution. With that you can for example hide, move and rename the default manager fields.

Oh, and for inheriting templates I suggest you to install Inherit Selected Template -plugin: http://modxcms.com/extras/package/214

Child documents already automatically inherit their parent’s template; check the InheritTemplate plugin (in the Elements/Plugins tab). This only works for documents created after the parent’s template is set; if the parent’s template is changed its existing children’s templates won’t change.

You can also hide TVs from all users except the admin user by creating a document group, then assigning the TV to that group. No need to connect it to a user group; admin user can see everything anyway.
