Hey guys. I was finally ready to move my modx site live. I have is in a subfolder /modx/ while I was working on it. Tonight I tried to move it too the root and now my site is down.
go to stevemullencreative.com and you will see the error I am getting. It looks like it is still seeing /modx/ as the base url. How can I change that, and is there anything else I should of done prior to making the switch?
Thanks.

Hi,
How did you "move" the site? My guess is that the database itself still has records that contain the old path. Dunno how you edit that. My approach would have been to install BkupMODx alongside the "assets" in the old location, have a new MODx install pointing to the root, install BkupMODx alongside *that* assets folder, then go through the backup/download/upload/import routine to get it to the new location.
That sounds like a kludge. Probably is. I’d like to think someone could recommend a better way.
Anyway, my two cents ...

hmm, yeah I just dragged the contents of /modx/ into the root. Am I screwed here? I was smart enough to backup the whole site before I made the move.

Did you trying draggin’ it back? I think that would get it back "working" (unless you did something after the move) and then you’re back to square one...

I have the site back to it’s original state. So you will not longer be able to see the error. I guess I will try your method of moving the site.
I’m a little unsure of making that work. I really don’t want to screw something up and loose all the work I have done inside of modx.
I have used the backup tool inside of the manager. (1.0.1)
If you are going to use the same database,
1. Make a backup of your database with phpmyadmin or another database tool (just in case).
2. Move all the current working the files to the root.
3. Upload the install folder that came with your version of MODx to the root (just like you were doing an original installation).
4. Open your browser, navigate to the installer and run it in Upgrade mode. Make sure you don’t install the demo content or it will overwrite the database.
5. After that finishes, log in to the manager/Configuration and make sure all file paths are correct.
6. If you modified the .htaccess files, change them accordingly as well.
How bizzare - I do this on a very frequent basis on redesigns for clients. Using sub folders and then cut/paste to the root.
Then just changing the Tools>Configuration> File assets path and File Manager Path.
If you using FURLS then make sure if you changed the .htaccess file back from the subfolder.
And that is it. Should work no problem...
Are you using <base href="[(site_url)]" />?
Did you hand code the navigation? Are the paths correct?
Moondawgy, yea I had updated all paths, updated .htaccess, I am was using [(site_url)] with no luck. The error I was getting was actually inside of the PHx plugin somewhere. I’m not sure that was the only problem, probably just the first thing to throw an error.
Breezer, thanks, I will try this out.
