Multi languages site

Hello,

I am new to this forum and new to modx and have the next question:

I want to make a multi language site and found the next url with information how to do that.
http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,29597.msg179898.html#msg179898

This works fine but i have one question.

english / alias: gb / type: folder (1)
|-> Welcome (2)
deutsch / alias: de / type: folder (3)
|-> Willkommen (4)

I dont want the folder english en deutsch to be showed in the menu only the folders inside it, because it looks strange if you see that in the menu. I just want to get the flags on the right side of the website so i can change language there and than just see the menu of that language. Does anyone know how I can do that?

Grtz, Patricia

have you try YAMS: Yet Another Multilingual Solution?
http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/board,381.0.html

Or for a simpler solution http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Make_Multi_Lingual_Site

There is also a simpler way, I use it, and it works pretty well, since I need to get all my pages translated to five languages.

Go to Google Translate and have a look.

Probably not the solution for all, but it works good enough for me.

I also tried the easy way.

But i dont see the flags and the menu is kinda strange.

HI sottwell,

I tried that one and it works but i dont see the flags.
any idea what i do wrong?

Do you have the flags as graphical files in the right folder?

yes i have, but i dont see nothig check http://www.patricialenten.nl/modx/index.php?id=49

i think it is something in my snippet

---
<?php
// get languages info
$tv = $modx->getTemplateVar(’languages’, "", $modx->documentIdentifier);
$languages = $tv[’value’];

if (!strlen($languages))
{
return "";
}

$langnames = array(
"en" => "English",
"de" => "Deutsch"
);

$output = "";

// get entries in languages list
$entries = explode(",", $languages);

// loop through language entries
for ($e = 0; $e < count($entries); $e++)
{
// seperate into lang code and target document id
list($lang, $targetid) = explode("=", $entries[$e]);
$image = ’<img src="assets/images/flags/’.$lang.’.gif" width="16" height="11" border="0" alt="’.$langnames[$lang].’" />’;
if (strlen($output))
{
$output .= ’ ’;
}
$output .= ’<a href="’.$modx->makeUrl($targetid).’">’.$image.’</a>’;
}

return $output;
?>

What version of MODx do you use, and how does your call to the Languages snippet call look like?
