i uploaded a file "swine-flu.pdf" into /assets/files

then i created a weblink (resource id #49) which has "assets/files/swine-flu.pdf" in the "weblink" field, which works fine when this is put into the navigation by wayfinder.

however, what i would like to do is put a link to this file in the content of the homepage (not in a menu or anything like that, just in the body text), so i created a link like this: Swine Flu, but it doesn’t work. when i hover over the link it the status bar at the bottom of my browser looks as if it’s pointing to the weblink, but when i click the link it simply reloads the homepage.

i realize of course i could just make a link pointing directly to the file, my logic here is that this swine flu pdf will be mentioned quite a few times throughout the site, and as information comes out we may have a new file, which someone could upload with a different filename or something, so i’d like to basically have one thing (the weblink) pointed at the file, and then point everything else at that pointer, so that i won’t need to update 1,2,3,10,20 different links if the file changes.

i know there is a file input type TV, but if i used that i would be uploading the same swine-flu.pdf file into several spots right? i couldn’t keep referencing the same .pdf file in different pages could i?

any input on how to accomplish what i’m trying to do here? or does anyone have a better method that they employ on their sites?? thanks for any insight!

      [solved]

why do i always waste an hour or more trying to figure out how to do something, then within a couple minutes of posting in a forum i figure out the answer.

i changed the "weblink" field within the weblink to the full path to the file "http://www.domain.com/assets/files/swine-flu.pdf" and now i can just do Swine Flu anywhere in the body text and it works!
