Sorry for the hiatus here Zap, thanks a lot for your suggestion but I’m a little confused as to what you mean.
Each language has around 50 sub pages that currently structure as www.site.com/english/page.php so I have friendly URL’s on but alias off so right now they would all just be site.com/page.php across all languages, while in theory this works, I think that doesn’t make that much sense. With 8 different languages and 50 sub-pages for each one I feel like at least one language subdirectory in the URL would be useful. The problem I’ve obviously run into with ModX is that I can’t add just one folder, I have to add ALL sub-folders to the URL if I still want to keep things in parent/child folders in my navigation, correct? I don’t want 50 un-organized paged in my ModX under each language directory.
I’ve tried just writing in by hand /english/pagename.php into the alias field but ModX changed all /’s to -’s from that field.
Was that what you were suggesting?
That was what I was suggesting. I hadn’t tried it, so I didn’t know for sure whether or not it would work. Since this goes against the friendly alias path logic, I can understand why slashes are replaced.
But maybe the easiest solution is just to edit the code that replaces slashes in MODx so that it allows you to include them in the alias. Why don’t you try editing the alias of one or more documents directly in the database and see if it works that way (Apache rewrites, URLs in MODx, etc. If you find that it doesn’t cause any problems, it wouldn’t be hard to find the code that replaces slashes and edit that part out.
That’s a great idea Zap, I’ll do that and let you know how that works out! thanks for the help...
