    I have installed MODx Evolution (1.0.2) for a client on their host (Hostgator, in the web root), and I can access the Manager pages fine, but any other urls (friendly or direct) take me to a 404 page:

    http://www.sandynicholson.com/contact
    http://www.sandynicholson.com/index.php?id=36 (same links)

    I turned off register_globals in the php.ini file (as it was on by default) and have done small changes to the .htaccess file, but nothing has fixed the problem. Any help would be appreciated!!

    .htaccess changes:

    # Rewrite domain.com -> www.domain.com -- used with SEO Strict URLs plugin
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.sandynicholson\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.sandynicholson.com/$1 [R=301,L]

    # For Friendly URLs
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

      Did you turn on Friendly URLs in the manager? Tools > Configuration > Friendly URLs

        Yeah, I tried both on as well as off. I originally developed the site on my local machine, imported the database to Hostgator, then updated the refs to the file and assets folders. Everything works within the Manager, but viewing any of the pages is a big no-go. Chatting with tech support didn’t offer up any suggestions either.

          And just to make sure it wasn’t something I had modified that was causing the issues....

          I created a new DB, installed a new instance of modx, left friendly urls off, tried with the .htaccess file named as ’ht.access’ and ’.htaccess’ (defaults) - same result.

          http://www.sandynicholson.com/index.php?id=1 == Error 404

          Any help is very much appreciated!

            I would turn off friendly URLs in Tools | Config and make sure there’s no .htaccess file for now.

            It looks like you have an index.html file -- get rid of that also.

            Is the site in a subdirectory or in public_html?

              .htacess is back to ht.access, friendly urls are off and the site is currently in the public_html directory.

              Removing the index.html page exposes the contents of the public_html folder, so it’s gotta stay -- I should be able to work around it using www.sandynicholson.com/index.php?id=5 (main page) with it in place, yes?

              As mentioned before, I tried creating a new DB, did a fresh install of Evo 1.0.2 with all of the defaults (ht.access not renamed, no friendly urls) and got the same 404 error for the default ’install success’ page.

                Nevermind, I found the solution --------- and yes, it makes me weep tears of dumb.

                I forgot to move over the index.php file.

                Thanks for the help. And let that be a lesson to everyone out there - please, don’t forget the index.php file. It is rather critical to make things work.

                Now how do I delete this thread from existance.... wink

                  It’s a good thread for others that might have the same problem actually. We’ve ALL done this at one point or another.
