I’ve created a custom template and a page that points to it, in a new installation of MODx. I’m using version 1.0.2 for the first time and noticed that there was already a page created called MODx CMS install successful, which had made itself the default page, i.e if I go to http://site/index.php it shows this page.

I’ve turned on friendly URLs and I’ve made the alias of the page I want to be the home page "index". The suffix is .html so the page is index.html.

However if I browse to http://site/index.html I get a Page Not Found error.

Additionally if I try to unpublish the Successful Install page I get this error alert: "Document is linked to site_start variable and cannot be unpublished".

    Any ideas?

Have you published the page? And, have you enabled Friendly URLs in the configuration and renamed the ht.access file in the root of the site to .htaccess? They are two of the main causes of this.
Additionally if I try to unpublish the Successful Install page I get this error alert: "Document is linked to site_start variable and cannot be unpublished".
Go to Manager -> Tools -> Configuration, change the ’Site start’ value on the first tab to be your new index page. Save the configuration and then you will be able to unpublish the original. Alternatively, just re-utilize the existing ’Install Successful’ page (change template, alias etc.) to repurpose it to be your new index page.

The page was already published and Friendly URLs turned on, however renaming the ht.access did the trick.

        Thanks!
