    Help please!

I am a total newbie to MODx, I have read through about 3 pages worth of forum chats and must be honest getting so confused, so i can for the life of me not figure out what is going on with the url rewriting and why its will not work working

It keeps giving me e.g.: http://fruithosting.co.uk/index.php?id=3 etc and not http://fruithosting.co.uk/domains.html why?

What i have done I mentioned below:

    1. I firstly enabled url rewriting in the cms
    2. Then copied this code below into my htaccess file, I found it in my original file ht.access file i got with the downloaded package.

-- this part i have to have its got nothing to do with the cms ---
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^([^.]*)$ index.cgi/$1 [L,NE]
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^([^.]*)$ index.cgi/$1 [L]

    ...... ends ......

I have tried all the suggestions found in this forum nothing will work.

    Options +FollowSymlinks
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^.*internal\ dummy\ connection.*$ [NC]
    RewriteRule .* - [F,L]

    # Rewrite domain.com -> www.domain.com -- used with SEO Strict URLs plugin
    #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
    #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com [NC]
    #RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

    # Exclude /assets and /manager directories from rewrite rules
    RewriteRule ^(manager|assets) - [L]

    # For Friendly URLs
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

    # Reduce server overhead by enabling output compression if supported.
    #php_flag zlib.output_compression On
    #php_value zlib.output_compression_level 5
