    Hallo,

I’d like to set up a web based file server in order to share music privately with some friends (on a nslu2). I have tried ftp but found that some of my friends aren’t going to take the step of learning how to use an ftp client...

Is there some module or plugin to Modx which I can use to set up a web service which will allow some web users read-only access to all files in some directory and write access to another directory? It should also offer the functionality of picking local files or dirs to upload and of browsing files and dirs on the server to download.

I have tried to install phpfilenavigator (2.3.3) which looked promising, but it does not seem to work with lighttpd, and apache is too much of a resource-hog on the nslu2 with its 16MB of RAM. Do you know how to set up such a thing? One problem is my nearly nonexistent knowledge in php or similar languages sad

    Thanks in advance!

I came across "file thingy" a bit ago and for simple stuff like that I found it perfect. It’s just a single PHP script but easy to modify if you want to build in something like authentication back through modx.

This is not a MODx specific solution, but perhaps you’re looking for something like Opera Unite (still in beta). I’ve only heard about it, never actually used it myself. Might be more user friendly than FTP or webdav?

file thingy looks pretty much like what I’ve been wishing for smiley
I am going to fiddle around with it and post what comes out.

I am going to have a look at Opera Unite as well! Opera keeps getting more and more useful.
The inconvenience about it is that most of my friends aren’t very much interested in learning to handle a new browser. Anyway, I can’t rely on them to get Opera.

            But thanks anyway!
