    Hi,

I have a client who asked the following question:

Is it possible to make another shorter alias for a certain url, like this:

    Friendly url:
    http://www.mydomain.com/gb/category/item.html

Shorter alias brings me to the url above:
    http://www.mydomain.com/item.html

Don’t know if it’s possible, anyone?

    thanks!

Manager => Configuration => Friendly URLs
Set Use friendly alias path: to No
All your url’s will be short smiley
If you want only certain ones shortened then a plug-in or some .htaccess trickery is likely to be required.

        Hi David,

Do you know any plug-ins that can do the trick?
I’m not so familiar with mod_rewrite rules.

        thanks!

He meant you would have to write a plugin to respond OnPageNotFound to whatever shorter URLs you wanted, or use mod_rewrite to do the same. IOW, you need to have some kind of pattern or map of the URLs you want to respond to shorter versions than what is actually in your MODx site definition.

I don’t think there is a ready-made component to do this for you, but someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Ok thanks, I’ll try to dig deeper into Onpagenotfound or the rewrite rules.

I might be over-simplifying what you need, but we have used weblinks to do this. For example we have http://www.nsb.org/mops redirect to http://www.nsb.org/connect/adults/women/mops-mothers-of-preschoolers.
They have to be made one at a time, but they only take a minute to make. Does that help at all or did I miss something in the question?

Hi, that’s exactly what I’m looking for

Is it available in Evolution, because I could only find documentation on weblinks in the revolution documentation?

Ok, already found it, that’s easy and did the trick!

                  thanks!
