Am I safe in assuming that I should change all ht.access file names to .htaccess once I have actually installed MODx to a live server environment? Also, what permission settings are typically appropriate for these files? Finally, if no security vulnerabilities are showing up in the site reports, am I safe in assuming that everything is in order, or are there other files that should typically have their permission settings changed once MODx is installed?

Thanks, again, for the great forum support.

You just need to change the one in the root and the one in the manager and then only if you want to use Friendly URLs or add stuff of your own in .htaccess (e.g. rewrite rules or spam blocking).

Thanks BobRay. Yeah, I am using friendly URLs, so I did go ahead and change the file name in the root and manager directory. Appreciate the advice.
