Need Some Help Getting Started

Hi all

I have some experience with PHP/XHTML/CSS but am pretty new
I would like to get started with Modx as CMS but, since I’m new, some help is welcome.

Can anyone help me out with clear and brief tutorials on how to start making a website with modx (version 1.0.1) from scratch? (creating my own XHTML/CSS {and images} template, adding content, ...)

I already found a good tutorial (http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/MODx096/Template+Basics), but I’m using Modx 1.0.1, and I cant find the resources button described there at the beginning of the tutorial.

Any help is welcome.

Thanks in advance

PS: I’m sorry if this is a double post, i did some searching, but didn’t find clear or usable information.

EDIT: I didn’t notice the "MODX 101" board under this board, I’ll be browsing that tomorrow I think. But for today, I’m stopping

Resources are now called Elements.

Here’s a series of beginner tutorials for MODx - http://codingpad.maryspad.com/beginner-tutorials/

I wrote them for MODx Evo 0.9.6.3 but the same principles pretty much apply to MODx Evo 1.0 and 1.0.1. You may first want to watch this screencast - http://codingpad.maryspad.com/2009/09/10/modx-evolution-manager-backend-comparison/ so you can see some of the differences between the manager backends of the 0.9.6.3 and 1.0.1 so you’ll have an easier time following tutorials written for 0.9.6.3.

Some other great resources:

Hope this helps.

Here’s a post on the terminology changes that are tripping you up:

http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,36696.msg221652.html#msg221652

Not all the documentation has caught up to the changes.

And take a look at the site in my sig.

Ok guys, thanks for the info
sorry for the late reaction, I haven’t had the time to check it out yet, but I will be checking it when I continue.

Thanks anyways, I’ll reply when I read some of the posted links.

Einsteinboi, I’m looking at your tutorials, and it looks very promising.

I must say that I have screwed up in the first minute (and no, the problem is not your tutorial )
I posted the problem here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,41469.0.html

I think i got the username and or password wrong and keep getting an error.
Ok, it’s pretty stupid to get it wrong, but that shouldn’t disable me from accessing the manager, without giving me a chance of filling it in again.

Maybe it’s security and maybe i’ll be able to login after a certain period of time, I don’t know.

You’re normally blocked for 60 minutes.

You can overcome both the blocking and not knowing the password if necessary. See the end of this page:

Hi BobRay

Thanks for the response, it’s an interesting option.
I have replied in the thread where we were discussing the problem: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,41469.0.html
