Pagination for Long Articles?

Hi everyone, I am looking for a way to split long articles into pages. I have found this Pagination plugin but it looks like you need to manually insert a tag in the article itself when you want to skip to the next page (which is not something I really want). It’s also from 2006 and I’m wondering if there’s anything newer.

What I am looking for is a way to automatically paginate the articles, like if they reach 1000 words, for instance, then there’s automatically a link to go to the next page, etc (like in magazine sites). Is there a plugin available for this or is it already a function available in MODx? Much thanks for any and all help.

Hi,
The "simple" answer is to use Ditto. http://ditto.modxcms.com/tutorials/pagination.html But that’s actually not that simple - you need to read up on Ditto parameters, always a challenge, and set up a template for Ditto to use, make sure doc is not cached, on and on.

I use Ditto all the time, as it’s so flexible for presenting documents and groups of them. But I spent a lot of time swearing when the documentation I was reading actually didn’t work, or was confusing, etc.

I’d almost rather use the snippet with a variable if you just want something quick.

Good luck, D

If to have a ditto snippet call on the article itself just displaying the article
http://ditto.modxcms.com/extenders/summary.html

Or using PHx -but PHx breaks if the article gets to long.

But there is also nice jQuery and javascript solutions that probably is the
best tip for performance!!
