Has anybody ever attempted to make a mini MODx?

I love MODx and my problem is Im running out of disk space on my shared server, many of the sites are 3 to 5 pages and perhaps dont even need a CMS

Im thinking keep Ditto, Wayfinder, Ajaxsearch and Breadcrumbs and chop away the rest,
the Tiny MCE editor takes up loads of disk space its around 2.5 Mb.

    Has anybody done this before?
What should look out for/ is there anything that I should not remove?

    Thanks

There is nothing to stop you from installing MODx on a local server (on your computer with only the addons you want and then upload it to the server. I don’t know how slim you are going to get it but you can certainly lighten it up and then upload it to your server and run it there.

you can certainly remove any snippets/modules/plugins that you don’t need. Just make sure you remove or disable them in th emanager as well and change any system settings if need be.

If you only use a single language you can save some extra space by removing language files form the manager as well as from any snippets etcetera. Make sure you keep the english language files as well if your site uses a different language.

You can remove manager style directories in manager/media/style/ as well if you only use one style I would think.

Just remember what you do as the next time you upgrade you’ll be putting most of it back smiley

How much space do you have? MODx really doesn’t take up all that much disk space, so it kinda sounds to me as if you’re working in an extremely limited environment. The default installation (including database files) is about 10 MB, so even if you have only a 40 GB drive or shared partition you’d still be able to host 4,000+ default sites before you ran out of space.
