I have been working with modx 0.9.6 for a while now and I was attempting to install modx evolution 1.0.0 on a fresh install of xampp-win32-1.7.2
Xampp installed fine. Modx installed without a hitch and I can access the demo page that is part of the modx install, but when I try to login to the manager the following text (html tags and all) appears in a pop up dialog box:
<b>Warning</b>: date() [<a href=’function.date’>function.date</a>]:
It is not safe to rely on the system’s timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the
date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning,
you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected ’America/New_York’ for ’-4.0/DST’ instead in
<b>C:\xampp\htdocs\manager\includes\document.parser.class.inc.php(746) : eval()’d code</b> on line <b>51</b>
Location: http://localhost/manager/
and does not login... Anyone seen this before or know what this could be?
Thanks! Hope I put this in the right forum...
PHP 5.3 requires that the timezone be set, usually in php.ini.

Note that XAMPP has more than one php.ini file. You want the one in /apache/bin.
While you’re in the neighborhood, edit /apache/conf/httpd.conf and uncomment the following line in case you want to have Friendly URLs in MODx later:
LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
XAMPP has mod_rewrite off by default.
